Shambaugh & Son’s (Shambaugh) Fire Protection group was selected to help construct a crucial expansion to Croda International’s (Croda) Atlas Point specialty chemicals manufacturing facility.
The project equipped the facility with advanced fire protection systems, in order to keep the plant, its cutting-edge equipment, and Croda’s employees safe. By leveraging bio- ethanol instead of traditional petrochemical, the plant reduces its environmental impact without sacrificing efficiency or performance standards.
Committed to environmental stewardship, Croda International determined it would make a significant investment in green technology at its chemical plant in New Castle, Delaware. By expanding the facility and outfitting it with state-of-the-art equipment, Croda International aimed to make its manufacturing process more efficient and, more importantly, sustainable.
Shambaugh’s scope of services focused on protecting the facility’s vital processing equipment, stacks, vessels, tanks, pumps, pipe racks, and other areas housing the plant’s critical systems. Using 3D building information modeling (BIM) software, the Shambaugh team installed a fire protection network of open-head deluge systems across the facility, including on process stacks exceeding 180 feet in height.
During the project, Shambaugh delivered the following:
Croda International PLC is a British specialty chemicals company that has been operating in the United States since 1950. With multiple manufacturing centers spread internationally, Croda’s business focuses on the production of surfactants, dietary supplements, and fatty acid amides.
Shambaugh & Son (Shambaugh) provided new construction and fire protection services for Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation’s (Gulfstream) hangar expansion project at the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport in Georgia. The expansion added 110,000 square feet to the facility – a substantial increase capable of housing 100 new staff members.
In order to manage a project of this scope, Shambaugh’s team of fire safety experts leveraged their highly efficient design-build approach coupled with years of field experience. The finished hangar features cutting-edge fire protection systems, which help Gulfstream maintain an exceptionally safe work environment for their employees.
Gulfstream determined their Brunswick hangar facility needed an expansion in order to better support their existing service center. The service center plays a key role in Gulfstream’s operations, offering personal, one-stop convenience for major inspections, installations, and modifications to business jet aircraft.
The project included a wide array of fire protection solutions, and Shambaugh self- performed all of the work they provided to the service center.
During the project, Shambaugh’s team delivered the following:
Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation designs, develops, manufactures, markets, and services business jet aircraft. Since its founding in the late 1950’s, Gulfstream has produced more than 2,000 aircraft.
