Farbest wanted to build a second plant to meet an ever increasing nationwide demand for turkey products and thus, increase their market share.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Farbest selected Shambaugh & Son as their single source, Design-Build partner for the fast–track construction of their new turkey processing plant to include receiving, production, cold storage, and support/utility spaces.
Shambaugh & Son’s responsibilities included design and construction management of architectural, civil and structural systems as well as the design and installation of all building utility systems including steam boilers, ammonia refrigeration system, plant water, potable filtered UV treated process water system, storm and sanitary systems, plant pneumatic systems, and HVAC. Shambaugh & Son also handled the extensive prefabrication of major MEP systems.
Shambaugh & Son delivered: fully automated humane stunning, highly efficient automatic steam scalders with heat and condensate recovery, fully automated evisceration systems with automatic re-hanging stations, automated quick chill carcass systems and ground turkey processing.
Farbest’s new 227,000 square foot facility is considered the most highly automated plant of its kind in the world. It efficiently processes up to 50 large tom turkeys per minute within a highly hygienic and employee ergonomic friendly environment.
