Shambaugh designed and installed fire suppression systems for A2B, including fire pumps, structures, valve houses, and deluge systems. Our fire protection systems protect the facility’s state-of-the-art chemical processing equipment, which has capabilities for nitration chemistry, acid handling and recovery, among other chemical processing operations.
A2B was the largest construction effort at the plant since its original construction during World War II.
Client Objectives
Under the project title “A2B,” the client sought to construct a new facility to produce acetic acid and acetic anhydride at their 6,000-acre plant, which supplies explosive materials to the U.S. Department of Defense.
Scope of Services
Shambaugh provided fire protection systems including:
- Three fire pumps
- Fire pump structure
- Six valve houses
- 31 deluge systems
- Monitor gun configurations
Our fire protection systems protected vessels, structures, pumps, tanks, diked areas, and pipe rack areas. The specialized monitor gun configurations we supplied and installed protected key storage tank areas.
