CLIENT OBJECTIVES

Smith Dairy wanted a new ice cream spiral freezer, fruit room cooler, and autopalletizing facility in their plant in Orville, Ohio.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

Shambaugh & Son was commissioned by Smith Dairy to provide conceptual and final food processing engineering and design for this new facility. Shambaugh designed the commercial refrigeration systems, the electrical and process control systems, and performed the conceptual layouts and master plan for the freezer warehouse expansion.

SOLUTIONS

• Performed a material handling analysis evaluating capital and operational costs for various warehouse options
• Utilized computer simulation to compare warehouse options. Determined which warehouse option provided optimal net present value
• Food Processing Engineering Services Commissioned to provide conceptual and final food processing engineering design for Smith’s new ice cream spiral freezer, fruit room cooler, and auto-palletizing facility.
