The facility additions included a new pasteurizer, new receiving bays and multiple upgrades to the infrastructure. This state-of-the-art fluid milk facility is able to service the growing Meijer store network, with redundant HTST’s, off-site process monitoring and the ability to produce consumer products 24/7.
Client Objectives
The client wanted to increase production to meet the demand of their 200 stores while continuing to provide all SKUs of dairy products during the renovations. Meijer wanted no downtime of greater than 24 hours.
Scope of Services
Using the Design-Build approach coupled with our ability to value engineer, Shambaugh installed the following:
- A new 125 gpm pasteurizer with integrated hot milk separator and Alfast Standardizing System
- One pasteurizer at 100 gpm renovated to a 125 gpm system to match new
- Multiple mix proof valve clusters to bring the plant to 24/7 operation capacity
- New 4-bay receiving with load out to allow for intake of between 2.5 and 3MM pounds of milk per day
- Installation of a new Ozonator and still to allow for the bottling of purified water products
- Construction of a new boiler room, plus installation of new 200 HP Muira steam boiler and new steam distribution system
- Installation of a new 400T chiller with new 28°F glycol distribution system
- Construction of a new employee welfare and office area
- Installation of two new blow molders with annealing tunnels, labelers and over 500' of bottle conveyor
- Full plant automation system with upgrades to existing equipment to allow for control
- New chemical storage and distribution system
- Installation of a new primary electrical service and upgrade of the existing electrical infrastructure
- New automated waste water neutralization and trea
- Installed new fire pump room and sprinklers in entire building
