Tom orchestrates and facilitates safety for both field and office personnel, managing over 50 safety coordinators across the Shambaugh family of companies. He plans the growth and development of each corporate safety professional and helps ensure that all jobsites are safe, and all company safety policies are being upheld. 

In addition to maintaining safety awareness, he oversees the development of safety materials, conducts safety training sessions for both field and office personnel, and leads the Construction Industry 10- and 30-hour Outreach Course for internal and external customers.

Expertise

Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in communications with minors in psychology and supervision from Purdue University. In addition, he holds the following safety certifications:

  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) from the BCSP
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from the BCSP
  • OSHA 500 Trainer Course for the Construction Industry

Tom is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Construction Division, Anthony Wayne Chapter, and attends the National Safety Council’s professional development conferences, the Indiana Construction Association Safety Committee, and the Coalition for Construction Safety. He also served for four years as chairman of the Building Contractors Association Safety Committee.

The Personal Side

Tom is married and has three children and two grandchildren. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and boating. He has volunteered as a little league coach and a Cub Scout/Webelos/Boy Scout leader.
