Gary L. Hegger, P.E.
Senior Vice President
Gary oversees delivery of the design/build, construction engineering, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, process) solutions clients need to ensure optimum facility performance. His responsibilities begin with listening and understanding clients’ facilities management challenges. He and his team then develop innovative proposals, and prepare accurate and timely estimates and schedules. Once a client has approved a project, he works with project managers to implement BIM (Building Information Modeling) and other leading-edge project management tools that enable safe, on-time, on-budget project delivery. The result for clients is the reliable, high-performance equipment and systems they need for efficient operation and an ongoing return on their facilities investment.
Gary has more than 30 years of industry estimating, engineering, and project management experience on design/build and plan/spec projects of up to $200 million. At Shambaugh, he has held positions as manager of mechanical estimating; manager of mechanical estimating and field operations; vice president of mechanical estimating, engineering, and field operations; and senior vice president of the Mechanical and National Process Division.
For the past 20 years, Gary has been directly involved in managing complete multi-division design/build projects for the food processing industry, such as the Chobani project involving the world’s largest yogurt production facility. In 2007, he moved on site to manage Shambaugh’s work at Marzetti’s dressing plant in Horse Cave, Kentucky. Due in large part to Gary’s BIM implementation, a procedure he uses extensively on all projects, Shambaugh completed this project 30-to-45 days ahead of schedule and below budget. This $50-million plant was named “U.S. Food Plant of the Year” because of budget, schedule, and world-class innovation. Shambaugh’s second and third Marzetti’s projects, which totaled nearly $90-million worth of construction, were also completed to the client’s full satisfaction.
Gary holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. A licensed professional engineer in the State of Illinois, he is a member of the American Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Professional Estimators, and the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers.
